As a junior, Makena Magro is a great contribution to the success of Girls Varsity Water Polo. LL talked with Makena and had the chance to uncover what happens in the pool.
Lancer Link: How long have you been playing water polo?
Makena Magro: Three years. I started playing my freshman year.
LL: What made you want to start playing water polo?
MM: I had friends who already played on the team and they encouraged me to try out since I had been swimming for eleven years at the time.
LL: What role do you play on the team?
MM: I don’t know what role I would say I play, but I always expect everyone to give 100%. I expect everyone to work hard considering how far we’ve come in the season.
LL: What is the team record?
MM: I’m pretty sure its 17-4, but we’re in a tournament right now so we expect to add more wins.
LL: How do you expect to do during CIF?
MM: I think our team will make it far if we play the game we know how to play. I expect us to do well.
LL: Do you see water polo in your future?
MM: I want to keep playing, yeah. I want to play during college and hopefully get a scholarship. I also want to keep my options open though.
