Originally an organization from Hartford, Connecticut, Carekit was able to spread throughout the United States. The Carekit community focuses on gathering hygienic supplies and donating them to homeless shelters. In 2026, juniors Addie Arterton and Rebecca Burke introduced a carekit club at CHS.
Junior Phoebe Del Pizzo is the social media manager of the Carekit Club on campus. Del Pizzo expresses a passion for helping people in need in her local community. Carekit focuses on donating hygiene products to women specifically, but attempts to partner with any organization in need.
¨I was inspired to join CareKit because I want to help other women in my community,¨ Del Pizzo said. ¨Our leaders also do a great job of spreading awareness and making tie say to participate in the meetings and drives.¨
Carekit attempts to assist any organization in need, whether it’s to specific women’s shelters or just general clothing drives. Arterton explained that Carekit has recently partnered with Shiraya’s Closet, an organization that collects clothes for people in need. Next, the club plans to partner directly with a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
¨We change our nonprofit each time we do a drive. We’re trying to expand our reach as much as possible,¨ junior Addie Arterton said.
Del Pizzo feels a connection and a desire to help women in assistance. Del Pizzo is a part of the Child Development pathway at CHS, and she currently interns at a local preschool. Due to this connection with young children, she understands the struggles of motherhood and the importance of aiding women in need.
¨As a girl I definitely want to help other women, especially those who might not have access to certain supplies,¨ Del Pizzo said. ¨I also am very empathetic of mothers since I work with young children so I want to ensure they are both supported and able to provide food and hygiene for themselves and their kids.¨
Arterton wants to go into the medical field for her future career. This club allows her to display her passion of helping people through giving back to her community.
¨I really wanted to bring a club to this school that focused on providing health and hygiene products to those in need because that’s something that I’m really passionate about,¨ Arterton said. ¨So I reached out to a few different organizations that I found, and so I found CareKit, and I asked if we could open a chapter here.¨
Being Carekit’s social media manager, Del Pizzo updates the club’s Instagram and Remind for upcoming donation drives and lunch meetings. Since the club is brand new to campus, the club has been experiencing some challenges of gathering members to join.
¨One thing that can be a struggle is building social media awareness and gaining active participants,¨ Del Pizzo said. ¨Since the drive occurs all over Carlsbad it’s important that everyone knows where are collection boxes are and that is only possible through social media and flyers around campus.¨
To promote the club, Arterton plans to partner with many different groups at CHS. She does this in hopes to gather more people to donate to those in need and give back to the community.
¨We were talking about partnering with ASB to get them to put boxes in people’s classrooms,¨
Arterton said. ¨We also were talking about going on CHSTV to raise awareness, and print out flyers to put around campus. We were even thinking about reaching out to the principal and seeing if she could send out a message.¨
Carekit has only held two meetings, and they already have people who have built a connection to the club. The club plans to have many more meetings and donation drives in the near future.
¨My favorite part of CareKit are definitely the people,¨ Del Pizzo said. ¨Everyone is super committed and hardworking making it a great, positive environment to be a part of.¨
