Mr. Threatt’s colorful suits and shoes make him hard to miss, but his strong passion for students makes him stand out. As the new vice principal at CHS, Charles Threatt is here to make the school a brighter place.
Before becoming a vice principal, he received his undergraduate degree from Point Loma Nazarene and a degree in counseling from Azusa Pacific University. After college, he became a counselor and the dean of students at Cathedral Catholic.
“I would say I do bring a different background, having worked in public schools, private schools, charter schools,” said Charles Threatt.
His past careers in the education system exposed him to what students want and need at school. From these jobs, he learned which qualities he possesses best as a leader.
“I would say [I’m] compassionate,” Threatt said. “I try to make sure that I’m intentional when I talk to somebody and when I see somebody. That they feel like they’re the most important person in the room.”
He believes that the easiest way to embrace himself in the new culture of Carlsbad High is by getting to know the students and staff personally. He is always making an effort to ask people about their day and learn something new.
“He gets out and about. He’s visible. He’s in classrooms and he’s talking to kids and really just trying to embrace himself in our community here,” said Principal Julie Redfield.
By exposing himself to the students, he has already formed connections where students feel safe and respect him. His open demeanor has made him a trusted member of the CHS community. Students feel that he will listen and value their issues to make everybody feel heard and safe.
“I think he would be one of the first people I would go to because he seems very open to new ideas, and I feel like he would be a safe person to go to if I have any concerns,” senior Jayden Bohne said.
His bright and outgoing personality has already hit campus by spreading positivity and joy. Students will benefit from these amazing qualities through the encouraging tone he has set on campus.
“He is friendly towards the students and very smiley,” Senior Eden Jacobson said.
He is not only shining because of his smile and positive attitude, but also because of his incredible shoes and suits, which he wears every single day. He owns every color of suit in the rainbow and 80 pairs of shoes. Students have connected his positive vibes with his colorful outfits, which is like a wave of positivity throughout Carlsbad High School.
“I love his suits, they are so fire and I feel like he needs all the colors in the world,” said Bohne.
Threatt’s main goal is to help everybody feel happy and safe on campus. He feels that everybody has a voice and should feel comfortable at school. He has made an impressive impact on students already, and he cannot wait for what the year has to offer.
“Doesn’t matter who they are, I think everyone deserves to feel like they belong, so if I can bring a sense of unity and community,” said Threatt.
