CHS is welcoming two new assistant principals for the 2023-24 school year. One of these new assistant principals joining the administration is Aimee Nava and the second is Karen Knudson.

For the past six years, Nava worked as a Spanish 2 teacher at CHS. She is prepared for the new tasks she will encounter as she transitions from teaching to administrative work.

“I was leading a committee called the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee,” Nava said. “In all of those spaces, my students were just very driven. I always thought about how I can help [my students] further.”

Nava’s background in teaching made a lot of the student body comfortable coming to her. Nava is ready to positively impact the school community and bring her ideas to life. Being on campus for years has given her time to think about what the school needs to do to thrive as a community, and bringing the No Place for Hate program to CHS was an accomplishment Nava successfully achieved. The No Place for Hate program is an organization that focuses on making students feel included.

“The more I thought about it, I thought about what if they had a vice principal that they felt comfortable going to?” Nava said. “I’m hoping that one of my best qualities is that a lot of the student body feels comfortable coming to me about how to make CHS a better place.”

Similar to Nava, Knudsen has teaching experience in other districts. Coming to this community was compelling for Knudsen because she grew up here and thinks of it as home.

“I’m just really excited to be back where I grew up,” Knudsen said. “And to be at CHS is just like icing on the cake because it’s such a great school [with] so much school spirit.”

Two new assistant principals are two new voices and leaders in our community who can make a change. Nava and Knudsen are ready to give their insights and positively impact the school, with the primary objective of providing unwavering support to the student body.

“I’m here to support CHS because I feel like CHS supported me when I became a new teacher,” Nava said.
