Throughout the first two and a half years of his time at Carlsbad, Senior Jason Floyd had no idea what he wanted to do after high school. Halfway through Junior year, he made an early decision.

“I never thought I would be going to Harvard.  I have the good grades and all but it is so prestigious it can be intimidating to many.  When the option to go Harvard became a reality, it was surreal,” Floyd said. “I picked Harvard primarily for the education, and I used football as a tool to get me there.”

He made varsity as a sophomore, playing cornerback.  At Harvard he will continue to play at a defensive back position.

Floyd considers himself a lone wolf since he does not yet know anyone at Harvard. That will all change this weekend when he meets other recruits during his official visit.

“I have had a great time at Carlsbad, but the opportunity to start over is enticing,” Floyd said.

He plans on majoring in government/economics, and is currently enrolled in the college prep courses at Carlsbad to build a strong foundation.

His parents, Robin and Todd, have been a big support to Floyd throughout his educational and athletic career.

“I just want to thank my parents, along with my sister Sarah, for helping me get to where I am today,” Floyd said.

Floyd is also a star on the Carlsbad track team, competing in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400m. He has had his greatest success in the 4x100m event with fellow runners from Carlsbad. Floyd hopes to end his high school athletic career on a good note during his last track season this coming spring.

He also excels in the classroom, taking pride in a 4.0 GPA. Harvard, known as one of the finest universities in the country, will really test him.

“I have made it a main priority in my high school career to strive to be the best I can be in all aspects: athletics, academics and my service to the community.  I plan on translating these same morals and attitude to my life at Harvard,” Floyd said.
