In North County lacrosse, the Carlsbad boys team has risen from setbacks and returned to reclaim their title. After a heartbreaking loss in the semifinals to Granite Hills last season, Carlsbad is back with a younger, more disciplined and higher octane team.
They are prepared to fight to the last minute to prove that lancer lacrosse is the best out there. Leading the charge is junior captain Brett Baudot, he is the top scorer on the team and he orchestrates the dynamic of the offense.
“We’re a good team, we’re a young team,” Baudot said. “Its been really exciting seeing how much we’re growing.”
This growth was captured perfectly in their win over St. Johns from Texas. A baseline measure to see if the Lancers had what it took to dominate the season.
“It was a great win,” Baudot said. “I felt we played our hearts out and showed what we were made of.”
As midseason approaches, the Lancers continue to strive for greatness. Even without their former head coach who ended up receiving a job with cross city rivals La Costa Canyon.
“It was hard at first and not everyone on the team was able to process it,” Baudot said. “But I’m really excited for when we face off it’ll be a great game.”
Even with the odds stacked against them, the Lancers continue to produce excellence everyday. The Lancer prioritizes one aspect over everything else, discipline.
“We have a lot of discipline,” Baudot said. “We enjoy playing lacrosse together to form chemistry.”
The Lancer standard doesn’t just stop at varsity, the goal is to dominate, especially with the junior varsity game. Junior Ronan Ferguson is a prime example of this belief.
“It just takes effort,” Ferguson said. “We try to push each other to become the best versions of ourselves, the best versions for the team.”
Ferguson also is a returning player and has seen what it’s like to receive the fruits of labor for this electric lancer team. Devotion is a pillar of this continuing the team’s winning streak.
“When we all have the same mindset it’s hard to stop us,” Ferguson said. “That mindset is to win in every part of the game.”
Overall, with youthful energy, relentless determination, and a chip on their shoulders, the team looks to once again be atop the Division 1. A goal that the team feels is well within reach.
“I wanna win,” Ferguson said. “However we can.”
One thing is for certain, these lancers are ready to win at any cost. To secure their future of being one of the most dominant lacrosse teams in San Diego.
“All of us want another chance to win,” Baudot said. “A D1 championship is what we work for everyday.”
