At the Battle of the Sexes assembly, ASB announced the date for Morp: Saturday, February 23rd. The theme for Morp will be: in a galaxy far, far away.

The date for Morp is set. After weeks of anticipation the date for the second annual dance has been revealed, Saturday Feb 23.

The committee headed by ASB’s publicity executive Courtney Benner, and other members of the ASB staff have begun planning their space aged themed dance, “in a far away galaxy” which was inspired by George Lucas’s, Star Wars.

Putting on a dance is no easy feat; one must plan for music, decorations, and fun, all on a high school sized budget. Which to say the least is not much, so the entire ASB class is contributing time and resources, including junior class president Maddy Oas.

“Planning this event takes a lot of work because ASB creates the entire dance,” said Oas, “We don’t hire anyone to decorate, so every decoration at the dance will be hand made by ASB.”

Months of planning and handmade decorations, is usually not something you would like to keep a secret, but ASB thought it was important to hide the exact date and theme until the recent pep rally.

“We wanted to keep it a secret so people wouldn’t reserve party buses and to keep the tradition from last year,” Benner said. “This is only because we would like everyone to enjoy the actual dance instead of making the dance an excuse just to have another party bus.”

Keeping traditions alive is a reoccurring theme in this year’s festive dance, as many aspects of the past year will shine through, with a fresh coat of paint.

“It’s going to be somewhat like Morp last year, like incorporating work from wood shop and art classes, as decorations, and again having a candy bar; but we do have a few new surprises that you will have to see at the dance,” said Benner .

ASB is encouraging everyone interested to attend and is hoping to reach and even surpass the numbers seen at Homecoming. And they are hoping to see a large turnout of couples at the dance.

“This year we are also encouraging girls to ask their friends and boyfriends, by creating a contest for the most creative way to get asked, you can post it on Instagram #chsmorp2013,” said Benner.

General admission to the dance is $10, and all are expected to wear their “spaciest” outfits. So make sure to come out and support ASB with a night of dancing and fun.
