The new Lancer App available for Android and iPhone provides important information to students including the daily schedule, events, teacher contact information and access to grades.

Want to learn everything about Carlsbad High? There’s an app for that.

CHS recently released an app in which the user can learn information about the school, as well as use shortcuts that link to affiliated sites. An innovative idea, the Lancer App benefits students, parents, faculty and others interested in CHS.

“The main purpose of the app is to increase communication so students and parents can have a portal to access information,” Assistant Principal Mr. Lord said. “We needed to have a way to mobilize content on our website and put it in a hand-held device.”

The app features links to ASB, Athletics, CHSTV and Lancer Link pages, as well as to the bell schedule, campus news and absence phone number. One especially exciting add-on is the ability to view maps for directions to other schools, so the user can easily drive to away sports games.

“The app is much easier to use than the school website,” junior Natalie Byle said. “Everything is right there.”

Students and adults alike find this technological addition extremely beneficial. Although the app has only just debuted, it has impressively accumulated over 1,000 downloads.

“We are hoping to get about 1,500 downloads after teachers talk about the app and parents find out about it at back to school night,” Lord said.

The app also sends campus news notifications to users; this proves handy for students who do not regularly check School Loop. The alerts keep students up to date on campus events, from pep rallies to updates on the odd/even schedule.

“It is good that we are able to send out notifications early in the morning so students can be reminded of what is going on,” Lord said. “It is a great way to get information out.”

Students and parents can download the app for both Android and iPhone at their respective app stores.
