Julie Redfield, principal at CHS, has been working for the Carlsbad Unified School District since 2007. She is still holding up her career very strongly in 2026 and is continuing her ongoing success as the lead principal.
Redfield is currently known as the principal of Carlsbad High School, but has had many other job opportunities within the district. She is happy as the principal, but is also appreciative of her past jobs.
“Prior to Carlsbad High School, I was a teacher and I taught physical education at a middle school for 14 years,” Redfield said. “I loved helping kids so I thought being a school counselor, I could reach out and help more.”
Though Redfield has not been the principal every year during her time in the district, she has made a significant impact every year being a Physical Education teacher, and a school counselor. Redfield has been the principal at Carlsbad High School for four years and will continue to make progress every year in her field and for the school.
“Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a teacher,” Redfield said. “I actually wanted to be a bus driver believe it or not but I then went through the administration route.”
Throughout Redfield’s life, she has had many mentors and people to guide her through her career. She then took an administration job for the CUSD in 2007 and never looked back.
“I had a lot of teachers that influenced me throughout my life,” Mrs. Redfield said. “I just wanted to go and do the same for others. My ASB director in middle school and my PE teacher were super influential for me.”
Though Redfield has not been the principal every year during her time in the district, she has made a significant impact every year being a Physical Education teacher and a school counselor. Whether she was guiding students in the gym, advising them in her office, or leading the entire school, her commitment to their success has never changed.
“Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a teacher,” Redfield said. “I actually wanted to be a bus driver believe it or not but I then went through the administration route.”
Over the years, Mrs. Redfield has been part of many remarkable moments at CHS. She has enjoyed every year even the ones before she joined CHS as the principal and has had many learning experiences since then.
“I love watching the growth and the maturity of all the students and living in the community is awesome,” Redfield said. “ I really enjoy seeing the students in our community and having our students come back and visit and being able to celebrate all of their successes.”
