Although his official title is Campus Safety Supervisor, Roger Casanova takes on the role of a friend and mentor to all staff and students on Carlsbad High School’s campus. Casanova has a lively persona while keeping the campus in check.
When the position for Campus Safety Supervisor opened up, not only Casanova, but those closest to him knew that his personality was perfectly suited for the job. His personality would end up being a perfect fit for campus.
“Because of my personality and my background, [my wife] said [this job] would be good for me. I like to watch over people and I am a people person,” Casanova said.
Being Campus Supervisor comes with the need to be able to talk to students head on. It reflects one’s personality, and Casanova strives under that environment due to his outright honesty.
“His personality is one of one,” Miller said. “He will keep it real and be honest… He is just a genuine human being… he will not shy away from a difficult conversation.”
Casanova has begun to show not only his integrity but also his ability to connect with students on all topics. He treats everyone like a best friend, making every student feel like they have a connection.
“My relationship with Roger, since freshman year, has been very good,” senior George Gomez said. “He treats us as if we are just friends. We got close really quick and he always asks me about my outside [of school] life, not just school life.”
Casanova´s connection with students is crucial, as it leads him into being able to mentor and direct students to success. By making the effort to reach out to students, he motivates them to strive to do better in their everyday life.
“The influence Roger has had on me is that he motivates me to do well in school as well as extracurriculars, playing soccer, and doing outside hobbies,” Gomez said. “He is always pushing me to do better. He may not realize it, but sometimes his words mean a lot to me.”
Casanova is a mentor, friend and Campus Safety Supervisor that everyone at Carlsbad can look up to. With his compassion and care for every person, he believes that no matter who someone is or how they act that everyone is equal.
“What makes Roger a good campus supervisor is that he treats all students equally, no matter how different they may be, he gives them all the same amount of attention and makes them all feel good about themselves,” Gomez said.
