How to be a professional seller on Depop and Poshmark
Students at Carlsbad High school sell items online. Depop and Poshmark are two easy ways to ship out sold items in boxes and make money.

In high school, students can spend money as quickly as they get it. Getting a job may be hard, however, selling items online is a quick alternative. For junior Casey Lavin and sophomore Mia Handojo, Depop and Poshmark is where they both make their profits.
The apps allow people to buy and sell clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. to anyone in the world. Students must first upload a photo of the item onto the app. Once someone buys the item, Poshmark and Depop create a shipping label to print and place on the package. Just drop the package into a mailbox without any additional shipping fees, and then wait while the money pending becomes available via direct bank deposit or check request.

“We want you to feel secure when selling on Poshmark,” Poshmark staff said. “As long as you use the Poshmark-provided label and the package is scanned into the USPS tracking system, you will be fully covered by Poshmark should the package get lost in transit by USPS.”
Selling on the app allows students to get rid of clothes at an affordable price. Poshmark has 4.7 stars out of five and is ranked fourth in shopping on the app. Depop has a 4.8 review and is 38th in shopping. Many customers shop on the apps looking for clothing and shoes, making it harder for other items to sell. Selling other items on the app can make it hard to gain exposure but Handojo finds a way to make money selling handmade jewelry.
“I’m still trying to find a good way, but so far I just link my Depop on social media and let others know where to find my jewelry,” Handojo said. “I’m trying to move to Etsy.”
In order to sell items, pictures are key. Make sure the item is placed where the product looks appealing in order to create a sale. Keep the item in good condition and make sure to list the products specifically. Even after completing these steps to sell, the item may not get as much recognition as hoped for.
“Some challenges are having an item that is expensive or has never been worn, and you really think it will sell but then it will get very few likes and it won’t sell for a long time,” Lavin says. “The main challenge is predicting what is going to sell or not and what to upload or not.”
