Swim went against Fallbrook on Thursday 2/24. Their next meet will be Thurs. May 1 at The Wave.

This past Thursday, April 24 the Carlsbad Lancers clashed with the Fallbrook Warriors at the Monroe Street Pool. Though Fallbrook proved to be fierce competitors, they couldn’t match Carlsbad’s speed.

Carlsbad’s dive team has shown great improvement over the past couple of years. Nonetheless, their victory didn’t fall short against Fallbrook. With standouts like senior Stephanie Busch placing in first place, the Carlsbad dive team is sure to do well for the rest of the season.

“In previous years, the dive team was really small, but over the years we’ve gained more people and we’ve really grown as a team,” senior and varsity diver Deja Sanders said. “Almost everyone has already qualified for CIF this season.”

Though the boys swim team beat out the competition and earned the 2013 CIF Championship title, girls swim is not too far behind.

Senior varsity member Sherri McIntee won the 200 Medley race with a time of 2:14. McIntee, already an accomplished swimmer who made it to the Olympic Team Trials, plans to swim at Notre Dame next year.

Senior and varsity member Charlie Dunlap shut out the competition in the 50 Free. Last year, Dunlap helped Carlsbad win the 200 Free Relay in the CIF Championships.

Summer Smith placed second in the 50 Free with a time of 26:42. Although only a sophomore, 2-year varsity swimmer Smith has a great future ahead.  Last year, she qualified for the CIF Swim trials and this year, she helped the girls varsity water polo team win the CIF title as a major starting player.

“With so many great swimmers this year, the rest of the season is looking great,” said Smith. “We all push each other to swim faster.”

As always, Carlsbad has a reputation for having some of the fastest swimmers in North County, and their meet against Fallbrook proved it. Be sure to come out and support the Swim and Dive team in their upcoming meets and CIF Trials.
