Girls varsity lacrosse conquers Del Norte

On Friday night, March 14, at the Lancer Stadium, Carlsbad’s very own girls varsity lacrosse team (4-0-1) started out the season with a victory against Del Norte High (0-1).

Though the game started out with first possession by Del Norte, Carlsbad senior and goalie Emma Allen blocked any scoring efforts within the first five minutes. In the next ten minutes, junior Grace McGinty makes a steal and scores the first goal of the game followed by another two back-to-back goals. McGinty made another quick steal allowing junior Katie Beyer to make a quick shot for Carlsbad in the last three minutes.

With three other goals by McGinty, Beyer and senior Courtney Haubach, the first half ends with a score of 7-2.

The first four minutes of the second half of the game begins with a goal from McGinty and a penalty earned by Del Norte. But just as the opposing team make their way down the field, Carlsbad responds with a quick steal to get the ball right back, allowing another goal from McGinty.

With only 10 minutes left on the clock, a brief possession by Del Norte is cut short by Carlsbad senior Riley Porter as she takes the ball back across the field. All but five minutes left, Beyer makes the last goal, and a block by Allen ends the game.

Our lady lancer’s varsity lacrosse team came out on top with a final score of 11-5.

Carlsbad’s fierce offense championed by McGinty and swift defense led by Allen left Del Norte in the dust. Both their speed down the field, and their ability to put the ball down the field all were key components in yet another victory for the lady lancers in their third game of the season.

Be sure to come out and show support for girls varsity and JV lacrosse  in their upcoming games.
