Mens varsity soccer shut out Del Norte
This past chilly Friday evening, Jan. 10 the men’s varsity soccer team (11-2) kicked off the new year with a win over Del Norte (1-2-3) at the home stadium.
In the first half the Lancers fought hard with attempts by senior Ethan Cowling and junior Eric Dominguez falling short.
The Lancers tough defense lead by goalie and captain Matt Deamer kept Del Norte at bay. Del Norte tried to retaliate with attempts of their own, all of which were saved by Deamer.
An aggressive play from Del Norte earned one of their players a yellow card and the first half ended with a score of 0-0.
The second half began with a senior Ethan Cowling completing a pass from junior Eric Dominguez making the score 1-0 in favor of the Lancers.
The Lancers held Del Norte at 0 for the duration of the game making the final score 1-0 in favor of the Lancers improving their overall record as they move forward into their season.
With several players coming off of injuries, Coach Riccitelli was pleased with the team’s win. “Our strategy going into any game is to dictate the tempo and pace and to just play our game,” Riccitelli said. “We hope to get a run at defending our league championship this year and it should be a good season.”
