On Jan. 20, the Boys JV Soccer team took on the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns on Swede Krcmar field. Led by junior captains Cameron Neill and Robert Sweeney the Lancers gained a second win in league this season.
In the first half, the two teams played pretty evenly, but the lancers slowly began to dominate possession. Their hard effort ended in a late first half goal by sophomore Juan Aguilar.
In the second half, the lancers continued their possession dominance. They tested the Longhorns goalkeeper with some good shots on goal and the RBV keeper made a few athletic saves, successfully keeping the lancers at bay for a time.
But with such pressure, the ball was sure to find the goal eventually.
It did in the middle of the second half, shot by freshman Eric Dominguez. The Longhorns made a valiant effort, pressing all players, even their keeper, towards the goal on the last play of the game. After a failed attempt on goal on the corner kick, the referee blew the final whistle.
“The boys played fantastic today; best game this year,” coach Glen Malone said. “They controlled the game from start to finish”
The Lancers won by a margin of 2-0 and advanced their league record to 2-0.
“It was our first ever win over RBV,” captain Cameron Neill said. “They are one of the better conference teams.”
The team captains were happy with the performance and saw this as a huge step for the team. According to Sweeney, the effort and win were a reflection of the team’s overall effort as they push towards their team goal: being the best in the league they play in.
“We come in with the same motto every time,” Sweeney said. “Go hard or go home. It really helps keep us tough and in shape.”
Come support the lancers this soccer season as they make a big push to establish Carlsbad soccer dominance. If they continue to play as they did this evening, you won’t be disappointed.
