May 16, 2023
Every year, Carlsbad High School hosts the Spikeball Tournament. The Spikeball Tournament is available for students in all grades and is an opportunity for students to get involved and embrace the Lancer spirit.
Senior Curt White competed in the 2023 tournament for the final time. White shared his favorite aspect of playing in the tournament every year.
“My favorite part is getting out there, getting some music going, hanging out, and beating all my friends at spikeball,” White said.
Spikeball is not specific to any sport, and all students can participate. Students do not need any prior experience to compete in the tournament, however, White has had many years of practice with the sport that has helped him succeed.
“I’ve been playing spikeball for a pretty long time, some call me a ‘vet,’” White said. “It has probably been like 8 years since I started playing.”
In Spikeball, there are two players per team. The object of the game is to hit the ball into the net so the opposing team cannot return it. Spikeball is unique because players can move or hit in any direction around the net. White was extremely motivated to succeed in his final tournament.
“The competitive spirit and will to win motivated me to compete in this year’s tournament,” White said.
The spikeball tournament is an opportunity for students to spend time outside of the classroom and engage in friendly competition against their peers. For White, the highlight of this year’s tournament was beating the other teams.
“My favorite memory was beating the Jits,” White said. “They were talking a lot, and it felt good to put them in their place.”
The Spikeball Tournament is an exciting time of year for students and players. Students can expect high competition and team spirit during the tournament. White made lasting memories during this tournament.
“It’s been really memorable competing in this last tournament with all of my friends,” White said.
