The CHS football team has played five home games several Fridays over the last few months. Whenever there is a home game the loud crowd, Carlsbad’s student section, is always there to show their support and cheer on the team.
Andrew Langer is in his senior year of varsity football and expresses how valuable the loud crowd is to the team every home game. He believes both the players, students and other watchers appreciate the energy that the loud crowd brings.
“It’s just super important because it’s a lot of fun and it really does a good job of allowing students to show their school spirit on game day,” Langer said. “It also really helps the football game and it’s a great environment for us.”
While the football players have a positive view of the loud crowd, the students who participate in it feel a whole new type of energy. Junior Briggs Young is a loud crowd enthusiast and is always happy to join in the festivities.
“It’s super loud, it’s super fun and everyone sings the songs together and roots for the best team…Carlsbad,” Young said. “It’s just exciting, and we’re all having a great time on a Friday night.”
The Loud Crowd is important to both the players and the students. It boosts the overall feeling of the game and adds more to Friday nights. Langer shares his thoughts on how the games would be without the Loud Crowd.
“I don’t think it would be as much fun for any of us cause it’s a lot of fun to be in that atmosphere.” Langer said.
Students also have their opinions on what the football games would be like without a student section. Young feels strongly about the Loud Crowd and does not know what he would do during home games without the positive environment.
“I would say I’m leaving the game,” Young said. “I mean I would still support but you know it’s just not as fun just to sit there with your parents.”
Young also mentions that the energy produced by the Loud Crowd affects how the players perform on the field. He believes that without the loud crowd, the success of the football team may not be as high as it is.
“Their performance would be a lot lower, the players have to do all that by themselves and create their own energy,” Young said. “But with the loud crowd being there everyones hyped, the adrenalines up, we’re having a great time.”
While the members of the loud crowd feel strongly about their effect on the games, the football players may have a different view on the game even when the student section is not there. Langer explains that even at away games, the energy created by both sides is unmatched.
“I wouldn’t say the energy is lower, the other team has their [student section] obviously, and we’re fighting the villain,” Langer said. “They’re rooting against you so you’re in the mood to beat them, so I think it’s kind of the same energy.”
Even though the players and students have their own thoughts about the significance of the loud crowd, it is important to both groups of people for different reasons. Langer expands further on why the student section is so important to the football team.
“I think the football team really likes it and it makes Fridays a lot more fun,” Langer said.“It’s just a really cool environment for us to be able to play in.”
Young also shares that he loves the loud crowd and is grateful for the amazing student representation we have at the football games. He enjoys the overall vibe and ambience the student section brings to Friday nights.
“We’re different from the rest of the schools because we got the best student section in the nation,” Young said.
