Long days of practice and a strong mindset are some of the many things girls softball are doing to prepare for their season. Last season the girls came out on top winning the CIF championship, and this year they plan to do the same.

“After our CIF win last season, we are trying to keep up the high standards coming into the new season,” Sophomore Hannah Lutz said. “We have been working really hard on both defensive and offensive drills that I think will benefit us.”

Like many sports at CHS, softball has had a great record through the years, and last year the girls obtained another huge achievement they can add to their list of victories.

“Last season all of our teams did really well,” Lutz said. “Varsity went first in league and also won CIF. Our JV team also won first in league, and our frosh team team was undefeated. This season we really want to work on our offense because last year we had some great hitters, so I think we need to keep that up.”

With the new season coming up, each team has prepared strategies involving new athletes, and are trying to continue the hard work to develop new skills individually and as a whole team.

“We lost a lot of great seniors last year, so now we are looking to help develop the younger girls on the team,” Senior Julie McDonald said. “Personally I don’t think we need to change anything in the upcoming season, as long as we maintain the bond we had last year between all the teams.”

Many of the varsity players, including McDonald, are committed to play softball at the collegiate level. These players are able to bring a strong sense of leadership to the team so they can achieve their goals for this year.

“We have a little bit of a target on our backs because we won CIF last year, so we are hoping to keep up our streak this upcoming season,” Mcdonald said. “Since this is my last season with the team I hope we can come out strong and continue to be on top.”
