A new addition to the Village
Recently, a new ice cream parlor has opened in the Carlsbad Village: Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream. Handel’s was first started when owner Alice Handel started serving ice cream at her husband’s gas station in July 1945. Her first batch of ice cream was composed of all fruits hand-picked from around the state of Ohio.
Owners of the Handel’s in Carlsbad, Marcus Weenig and Travis Campbell, are amazed at how much of an impact the opening of the ice cream shop has made on the community.
“The community has welcomed us with open arms,” Campbell said, according to The Coast News Group. “We can feel the enthusiasm and passion for our ice cream when talking to our customers. We look forward to being part of local fundraisers, supporting local charities, and catering various celebrations for our neighbors.”
Since the opening of Handel’s, it has had such a positive influence in the community, bringing in more people to Carlsbad Village as well as bringing support for the opening of the ice cream parlor. Also, most people enjoy Handel’s because of the great quality of ice cream.
“It’s so good!” Freshman Meghan Royal said. “I love that there is a variety of flavors to choose from and that they make it fresh themselves.”
Aside from a positive impact, Handel’s brings heaps of business to the Carlsbad Village because of its popularity. Handel’s always has a humongous line full of customers eagerly waiting for their ice cream.
“We love Handel’s quality and flavor options,” Weenig said, according to the Coast News Group. “You can’t find such a variety of flavors anywhere else. People try it once and often say that it’s the best ice cream they’ve ever eaten.”
Handel’s have gotten many positive reviews from mostly everyone because of their great customer service that makes all customers feel welcomed at their parlor. Handel’s definitely stands out from other ice cream shops with an astounding 175 flavors that are rotated from time to time.
“Handel’s has great homemade ice cream and the service there is fabulous because everyone is so happy and helpful,” Freshman Noelle Planchon said.
Weenig and Campbell hope to bring the community together using their ice cream shop as a way to do so. Hopefully by hosting events there that will help to spread the word about this up and coming parlor.
“We plan on being a part of the many great events hosted in Carlsbad,” Campbell said, according to The Coast News Group. “It’s cool to watch people congregate. Everyone loves to take a walk to get ice cream.”
