Senior Class Council takes the stage
May 4, 2023
Upcoming seniors Ben Harris and Harrison Koenig were elected seniors class president and vice president respectively for the 2023-2024 school year. Both students are excited to take on this role.
The boys share the goal of making the upcoming seniors’ senior year the best yet, which was their motivation for applying for the positions. Senior class president, Ben Harris, explains why he wanted to run for class president.
“I wanted to run for president because next year will be our biggest year yet as seniors,” Harris said. “I just want to contribute towards that and make sure everyone has a say in it.”
Senior vice president Harrison Koenig wants to make a positive impact on his and his class’s final year at Carlsbad through his position. Koenig looks forward to planning events and experiencing the exciting activities that take place during senior year.
“I’m really excited for our senior year,” Koenig said. “It’s our last year here and we get to do all the fun activities that come with being a senior that really make an impact on how your high school experience is. I really wanted to run for vice president to make our senior year as great as possible. I really liked how the leaders in the past made my experience at Carlsbad High School and I really want to continue that.”
Being a class representative has a lot of great opportunities but also comes with challenges. Harris talks about some of the events and responsibilities that he will plan and oversee as senior class president.
“I am in charge of a lot of the extra stuff for seniors like senior assassins, graduation events, senior sunrise, also our senior bonfires,” Harris said. “I’m hoping we can get the senior trips like Disneyland and Magic Mountain booked. Still kind of have to work on these things but we’ll get it.”
Koenig is looking forward to holding this position this year and he wants to start having an impact on his class in the coming months. Along with having an impact, he wants to create a welcoming environment.
“Some responsibilities I am going to have is running senior assassins and planning a bunch of activities for our senior year to make it as best as possible,” Koenig said. “Some plans I have are doing a lot of class-wide events to include everyone.”
Participation is a big part of the Carlsbad community, so Koenig wants to focus on getting everyone involved during activities. Both of the senior representatives are aiming to increase student involvement and participation through school activities.
“I’m going to make it the best year by including everyone in all of our activities,” Koenig said. “By creating a ton of fun events that really make a lasting memory on how their high school experience was at Carlsbad.”
