Top 5 TV shows to watch now that everything else is ending

The time has finally come for those shows that felt like they would go one forever to end. Game of Thrones and Supernatural have been running for eight and 14 years, respectively. It almost felt like they were never going to end, and many fans were happy with that. Alas, as time goes on, the actors get older, and both shows are ending after many exciting seasons. Another quality these shows have in common is that they acquired a huge and very passionate fanbase over the years.  Together, they have now culminated over 18.5 million viewers. Now, with these shows finishing, there will be almost 19 million people looking for a new form of entertainment. Here are some recommendations of TV shows that have yet to end, from a wide range of genres, that hopefully can help fill the holes in your hearts after these shows finally go off the air.

  1. The Flash – At 11, Barry Allen’s life changed completely when his mother died in a freak accident and his innocent father was convicted of her murder. Now a crime-scene investigator, his dedication to learn the truth about his mother’s death drives him to follow up on every new scientific advancement and urban legend. When his obsession – a particle accelerator – causes an explosion, it creates a freak storm and Barry is struck by lightning. He wakes from a coma nine months later with super-speed. When he learns that others who have gained powers use them for evil, he dedicates himself to protecting the innocent, while still trying to solve the mystery of his mothers death. Currently on its fourth season. 
  2. The Umbrella Academy – This new show by Netflix only has one season so far, but is already renewed for another season after its very positive reaction. Based on a comic by previous lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way, it takes place in 1989 when 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.
  3. Russian Doll – Nadia, a young woman who is on a journey to be the guest of honor at a party in New York City, gets caught in a mysterious loop as she repeatedly attends the same event, dying at the end of the night each time — only to awaken the next day unharmed as if nothing had happened.
  4. The Handmaid’s Tale – Based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, this series is set in Gilead, a totalitarian society in what used to be part of the United States. Gilead is ruled by a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state, and is faced with environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate. In a desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world, the few remaining fertile women are forced into sexual servitude. One of these women, Offred, is determined to survive the terrifying world she lives in, and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Outlander – Adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon, after serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives.
