Outer Banks: The new hit show people are obsessed with
June 12, 2020
During quarantine many new hobbies, shows and movies have been discovered. Netflix has you covered with their new show, Outer Banks. It is always good to destress and relax, which the new show is perfect for.
Set in the Outer Banks (paradise on earth) of North Carolina, this show focuses on the main character John B. Rutledge and his quest for his missing father’s treasure. He recruits the help of his three friends nicknamed the Pogues to help him find the gold. On their journey they encounter many obstacles, such as the wealthier kids nicknamed the Kooks. The love triangles, family issues, strong bonds of friendship and characters help make the show so popular.
While the show’s cast does not include the most well known actors, the characters fit the show perfectly. The main character John B. Rutledge is played by Chase Stokes. The Pogues consist of JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Kiara (Madison Bailey). The main Kooks consist of Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), her brother (Drew Starkey) and Topper (Austin North).
While the show ends on a cliffhanger, fans are dying over news of the future of Outer Banks. Netflix typically waits a month or so after a show is released to announce further plans, meaning that no news has been released yet.
The show’s script can be a little questionable at times, but don’t let that take away from the show itself. Netflix tries to include millennial terms such as “yeet” in parts of the show which seems very random and doesn’t work together well. There are other questionable moments in the writing, such as when Sarah Cameron attempts to jump out of the car with her seatbelt still on.
The writers also could have shortened the last episodes. Viewers did not need to watch John B. running away for three episodes, but maybe instead just a couple scenes. While the last few episodes could have been condensed, the show is still worth the watch. The show keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire 10 episodes.
After binge watching the show in one sitting, I would highly recommend giving it a watch. I find myself very attracted to the ideal teenage dream seen throughout the show. The lack of technology, no distractions from phones, freedom mixed with independence, ideal boating life and strength of friendship just make the show much more enjoyable.
If you are looking for some similar drama type shows like Outer Banks then I also recommend watching The O.C., The Society and Riverdale. They all give you the mystery, teen friendship and excitement similar to Outer Banks.
