Tourists. Mickey Mouse ears. An odd amount of twins. And purple, purple everywhere.
It can only be Spirit Week.
Last Friday, Spirit Week kicked off with a pep rally assembly during lunch. The assembly featured drumline, performances from JV and Varsity Cheer, Lancer Dancers and the Xcalibur dance team. Following the performances, teachers and students faced off in a “Minute to Win It” competition, featuring the games “Hanky Panky”, “Junk in the Trunk” and “Face the Cookie” among others.
Finally, as everyone in the crowd held their breath, TR made his final announcement of the senior homecoming court. Arturo Rodriguez, Jack Beetham, Levi Sebahar, Nick Romero, Scott Snow and Ricky Burke were nominated for homecoming King. The nominated Princesses were Alex Newby, Shannon Casey, Emma Rudolph, Seannie Bryan, Sahara Hines and Joanna Zarate.
“I am really excited and honored to be on homecoming court,” senior Emma Rudolph said. “Especially with such an amazing group of people.”
Next Friday, the king and queen will be announced after school at the annual Lancer Day assembly. The rest of the week offers plenty of diversions for anxiously waited students.
“Spirit Week is a great opportunity to get involved and have fun,” ASB president Jackie Eghtesadi. “It’s a time to step out of the ordinary and have fun with your friends.”
Monday begins with Class Colors Day– seniors wear white, juniors wear black, sophomores wear blue and freshman wear purple. Tuesday is Tacky Tourist Day, Wednesday is Favorite Disney Character Day and Thursday is Twin Day.
Lancer Day takes place Sept, 28, meaning students should wear as much purple as possible to school friday. In addition to a special early-out schedule everyone can attend the Homecoming assembly, parade in the Carlsbad Village and football game against Fallbrook.
Spirit Week ends Sept. 29, with the Disney-themed Homecoming Dance. Tickets are on sale all week in the ASB Finance Office, for $20 with an ASB sticker and $25 without a sticker.
This time of year only comes around once. So take advantage of it, and have fun!
