Question of the Week – Jan 18
Shannon McDermott, 11
"If I could change anything about the school to make it better, I would say that school should start later. Not only will it allow students to be more focused, but it will also give students a more pleasurable school day. Many students including myself are up past midnight doing homework and could use an extra hour of sleep."
Sam Clark, 12
"I would divert some of the funding from the broadcasting program over to the band program because bands don’t make very much on their own. They can do amazing things when they have the money to do it, though. Research the Bluecoats Drum Corps 2016 championships. That’s what happens when band gets their share of the kind of money broadcasting makes."
Joseph Little, 9
"I would add in a year long track training program. With athletes who just do track, it is hard to train alone during the period of time with no competition meets. With a year long program, these athletes could get extra work in and be more prepared for the season. The transition from High School to college would be easier too, since they train year round."
Lorenzo Alesani, 11
"I would change the difference, -not limited to Carlsbad High school- between students in AP classes and students in regular classes, because this difference is exorbitant. I agree that Carlsbad High School can not address this problem individually, but there needs to be some form of ancillary for those students in between AP and non-AP, and there needs to be less of a pronounced difference in consensus...
Hannah Hartwell, 10
"If I could change one thing about the school it would be that there would be no homework, because kids should use their time outside of school to do what they care about and what they are passionate about. I think everyone would be happy because nobody likes doing homework and it’s kind of a waste of time."
Trever Chanove, 12
"One thing I would do to change our school for the better would be to keep all the thousands gates unlocked because when I come back from lunch, I don’t look forward to walking around the entire campus just to get to my class. Sometimes the only thing causing kids to be late after lunch is that they have to walk a far ways, which takes longer even if they get back to school on time from lunch."
