Starting kicker junior Sam Oakes brings a lot to the varsity football team. More importantly, he wants to show younger football players that they are also important aspects of the team.
Lancer Link: How did you get into football?
Sam Oakes: I was kicking field goals in P.E. and the varsity coach was watching and told me I needed to play. I always wanted to play so I thought it would be a good idea.
LL: What sacrifices have you made for football?
SO: I’ve sacrificed all my time away from soccer, but it’s worth it.
LL: Why do you enjoy football?
SO: I like saying that I’m a part of the football team because it’s a big part of the school. Plus the jerseys are pretty sick.
LL: What motivates you to continue playing football?
SO: My main motivation is being able to be taught by the great Coach Taylor.
LL: Do you have any advice for younger players?
SO: Don’t think that because you’re a young player you aren’t important because you’re still part of a team. Word hard and get “swole.”
