The final weeks of senior year

Finally, after long months of studying, projects and countless homework assignments, the 2010-2011 school year is coming to a close. While all the underclassmen look forward to another summer, the Class of 2011 looks forward to the end of the school year festivities before graduating from Carlsbad High School.

Starting off on May 9, prom tickets officially go on sale until May 19. Tickets will be sold during lunch and after school on May 11, 12 and 13 for $90 a couple ($45 for single) with an ASB sticker and $100 a couple ($50 for single) without an ASB sticker. During the following week, on May 17, 18 and 19, tickets will be $110 a couple ($55 for single) regardless if students have an ASB sticker or not, so make sure you stop by the office this week to get a deal on tickets! But remember, tickets can only be purchased with cash. All students must have their ID card and if a guest pass is needed, they can be found in the Administration Office and they are due when the prom tickets are purchased. Tickets will not be sold at the door, so make sure you buy your tickets soon!

On May 21, prom will take place at the NCO Club Grand Ballroom at Camp Pendleton. The dance begins at 7:30 pm and ends at 11:30 pm, but students must check in by 10:00 pm. Make sure you bring your ID card, guest pass (if needed), and tickets or else you will not be let into the dance. Also, if you and your date want to capture your prom forever, then make sure you get a picture by Jerry Bryan Photography at prom.

On May 31, tickets for the Senior Pancake Breakfast go on sale outside the ASB Finance Office. The last day to buy tickets is June 3, but you do not have to buy a ticket in order to attend, but a ticket is required to eat yummy pancakes. The Senior Pancake Breakfast will be held on June 8 and tickets cost $7. Don’t miss out on this mouth watering breakfast and precious time to sign yearbooks and watch the senior video.

Also on May 31, the Senior Awards Night will take place in the CAC starting at 5:00pm and ending at 7:00pm. Make sure to attend and find out if you received a scholarship and other awards!

Yearbooks for seniors will also be given out on the June 3 at 2:20 in the old gym. All students must have their ID card to receive a yearbook and must be cleared of all ASB, library and text book fines. If a yearbook needs to be purchased, they will be sold for $100, the covers for $1.25 and extra autograph pages for $1.25 with a payment of cash only. Getting a yearbook for your senior year captures on the memorable moments that you experienced, so go purchase one and don’t forget to have all your friends sign it!

Senior finals for period 2, 4 and 6 will be on June 3 and finals for period 1, 3 and 5 will be on June 6. Good luck!

On June 7, seniors will go to Knott’s Berry Farm and must report to buses at 7:00 am on Basswood St. behind the visitor bleachers on the football field. Seniors cannot drive themselves to Knott’s and any senior that drives themselves will not be allowed to take part in graduation. Make sure you go on the bus so you can graduate with your fellow classmates and friends!

The senior check-out sheets that will be passed out during English classes in early June are due prior to boarding the bus. All seniors not going to Knott’s Berry Farm must turn in their check-out sheet to their counselor after 8:00 am. Seniors who do not turn their check-out sheet will not be able to participate in graduation practice or the graduation ceremony. All seniors going to Knott’s Berry Farm will have a blast with all their friends, but make sure you follow simple rules so you can graduate!

A MANDATORY graduation practice will take place on the morning of June 9 at 9 am; however, students should be in their seats at 8:45 am. Make sure you are there and stay until the practice ends at 11:00 am so you can participate in graduation. Caps and gowns will be distributed after graduations and extras will be sold for various prices for various packages.

Finally, after four long years of high school, the moment that all students have been anticipating: graduation. On June 9, between 5:00 pm and 6:15 pm, graduation will take place on the football field. All seniors must be at their designated area no later than 4:00 pm and gates for open seating will also open at 4:00 pm. Following graduation, seniors will attend Grad Night at Disneyland at 8:30 pm and must ride in the buses provided. By this time, high school will finally be over for all seniors, so kick-back and have fun at Disneyland with all of your friends in your class!

The end of the year is packed with events for seniors and ends on June 10 when seniors can pick up their CHS diploma. Good luck Class of 2011 and take a breather because you all made it!
