‘Back in Black’ brings out Lancer spirit

‘Back in Black’ brings out Lancer spirit

Half an hour before the game even started, the long line of black-clad students wrapped around the stadium. The enthusiastic cheers drowned the voice of the rumbling announcer as red LED lights displayed the date, Sept. 30.

‘Back in Black’ was in full effect for the first varsity home football game against Torrey Pines High School. Students who attended the tailgate previous to the game had their faces painted to say ‘go Lancers’, which definitely added extra spirit to the crowd.

The Peewee and Junior Pop Warner cheerleaders and football players were also part of the action, walking around the track previous to the game. The Pop Warner teams weren’t the only visitors on the field, two Charger cheerleaders were also at the game supporting the Lancers.

“I’m excited to be here because I like seeing the football players and Charger girls come out,” sophomore Heather Runzel said.

With popcorn flying and cheers throughout the first two quarters, it was easy to see why the Lancers were in the lead.

The varsity cheerleaders kicked off the half time show with a dance routine that included tons of lifts and tricks, followed by a bubbly performance from the Lancer Dancers.

“The Lancer Dancers were good. It looks like they put a lot of time and effort into it,” sophomore Delany Porter said.

To end the half time show, band and color guard performed together. The color guard costumes and the band’s music propelled the Lancers for the 3rd and 4th quarter, leading to a score of 14-10 for the win.

If anyone decided to skip the first home game, make sure to clear your calendar for the next three. Nobody wants to miss out on this much spirit and fun.
