The best music blogs

Maddie Ward, multimedia editor

Whether you dissect every song you listen to or throw on music as background noise while you are working, there has probably been a point where you have felt as if there may be no more good music. Luckily, music bloggers work daily to find the greatest new music for you to start playing right away. Here are four of the best music blogs to check out when you find yourself stuck in a music rut.

Hillydilly:

Hillydilly is the best place to find relatively undiscovered artists. This blog is an easy-to-use site that allows you to quickly go through thousands of SoundCloud tracks. To find the best and latest music, I recommend listening through the charts playlist, which is edited regularly. If you are looking for music to fit your current mood, there are many mood and activity playlists to choose from or you can create your own. The website allows you to listen through all playlists without an account, but making an account will allow you to save your favorite tracks.

Ones To Watch:

Ones To Watch is the best choice when looking for a new artist to obsess over. Unlike many other music blogs that focus on albums and songs, Ones To Watch mainly focuses on artists. Ones To Watch allows you to sort through a plethora of musicians by genre and also supplies feature articles with several of the artists presented on the site. Each artist profile provides a bit of background information on them, links to where you can find their music, and other artists whose sound and style relates to theirs. All of this information is very helpful when looking for an artist that fits your taste.

The Line of Best Fit:

The Line of Best Fit is the best blog to visit for all of the latest news in music including upcoming releases and recently released music. If you like to try new music everyday, The Line of Best Fit’s “Song of the Day” section is for you. This section features songs every single day and supplies you with information on the artist and song. Along with daily song recommendations, the site has a “Competitions” area, where you can win tickets to concerts and artist memorabilia.

Pitchfork:

Pitchfork is the perfect place to get reviews on new albums and tracks. Although the website contains many sections, the “Best New Music” section is where the website truly shines. The 13 year old section provides a frequently updated list of tracks, albums and reissues to try out immediately. With every album featured there is a well written and descriptive review to go along with it.
