This year, Carlsbad High truly makes the holiday season a time of giving.

Lancers will host multiple drives throughout the month of December, and various locations on campus have been designated for students to drop off donations, such as food, toys and books.

Toy Drive:

Sponsored by AVID and Encuentros club, the annual toy drive encourages students to donate toys and other items to children. The drive began on Dec. 3, and will end on Dec. 20. There are boxes located in room 3201 (Mr. Spanier’s room) and room 3212 (Mrs. Britton’s room), where any donations can be dropped off. Supplies will go to the Casa de Amparo (Home of Protection).

“Students can bring toys for ages three to seven, and things such as art supplies, baby items, apparel and hygiene products,” senior Miriam Panduro said. “Donating shows Carlsbad’s generosity, and we will make kids happy during the holidays. All the student’s help is greatly appreciated.”

Blood Drive:

A blood drive at CHS will be held on Dec. 18, from 7:30 to 1:30 in the old gym. Appointments can be made at redcrossblood, or with a committee member during lunch. If you are unable to attend this event, Red Cross club will be volunteering with other various blood drives throughout the holiday season.

“It’s important to participate because we have so many resources that we can share, and giving blood can really help others,” Red Cross club president and senior Masami Amakawa said. “We have the opportunity to give back to the community.”

Book Drive:

Located in the school library, this year’s book drive will continue until mid-February. Students can bring in any books, which will also be donated to the Casa de Amparo.

“We want to deliver the books over the long weekend in February,” Librarian Mrs. Weldy said. “Students can bring in books for any ages of children, kids to young adult. It’s a good use for books you have outgrown or books you don’t know what to do with. You can donate them. It’s a worthwhile cause.”

All Lancers can extend a helping hand during the holidays, without even leaving campus. Be sure to participate in these events and donate to people in need during this holiday season.
