The two candidates for next years ASB president are Courtney Benner (left), and Sarah Nirschl (right).

It’s that time of the year again, Lancers. The posters are plastered on the bathroom doors and the neon shirts are filling the classroom. It’s election season. Before you go ONLINE and vote (because you ARE going to vote, right?), it is important to get to know the candidates personally so the Lancer Link sat down with the candidates and talked with them about what we might see from them next year.

COURTNEY BENNER

Basic (but important) Info:

Born: Dallas, Texas.

Favorite color: Pink.

If you could have a superpower, it would be: To fly.

Harry Potter or Twilight: Neither.

Candidate Interview:

Lancer Link: Why do you want to be ASB President?

Courtney Benner: I want to merge the student body and ASB into one. I am passionate about our school and I can bring in new ideas and make our school the most spirited of all the San Diego high schools. I also get a satisfaction from being involved in ASB. After planning an activity, my favorite part is seeing the expressions on students’ faces.

LL: Why do you think you should be president?

CB: I am really spirited and I have excellent leadership skills.

LL: What are your plans for next year?

CB: Sarah and I actually have a lot of the same ideas on this one. I want to introduce a winter formal dance, start on-campus intramural sports, have a carnival day, and have a movie night on the field. I also want to recognize activities and sports that aren’t normally recognized like choir, lacrosse, band and speech and debate.

LL: What else are you/have you been involved in at Carlsbad?

CB: I’ve been in ASB and class council for two years, volleyball for three years, I’m co-president of Pep club and I’m involved in French club.

LL: Why do you love this school?

CB: I love the environment and people are super nice. Obviously, our school is in Carlsbad, and who wouldn’t love this city? Also, school spirit here has increased so much since I was in 9th grade, and it has made me proud to be a Lancer.

LL: What can you say about your opponent?

CB: Sarah is very hardworking and really outgoing. She knows a lot of people which is a good quality to have in a president.

SARAH NIRSCHL

Basic (but important) Info:

Born: Carlsbad, California.

Favorite color: Purple.

If you could have a superpower, it would be: To control time.

Harry Potter or Twilight: Can’t decide.

Candidate Interview:

LL: Why do you want to be president?

Sarah Nirschl: I want to be president because I really care about our school, and I have a lot of great ideas. I really care about a lot of people here and I want to help them make memories that they’ll remember forever.

LL: Why do you think you should be president?

SN: Well, I’ve been involved in ASB for six years and I represent the school well because I’m involved in so many different activities.

LL: What are your plans for next year?

SN: I want to introduce the winter formal, have tail gates before every home football and basketball game, recognize unrecognized groups and overall increase school spirit. We are also introducing TR Vision, which is a large screen that we’ll have in the plaza. I want to use that for movie nights and announcements to draw attention to those groups that don’t get as much recognition.

LL: What else are you/have you been involved in at Carlsbad?

SN: I have been in volleyball for three years, I was sophomore class president and am currently Activities Coordinator in ASB, Vice President of Athletes for Rwanda, and the co-president of Pep club.

LL: Why do you love this school?

SN: Well first off, you can’t beat a school with an ocean view. Plus, this school is full of really nice kids and lots of activities to get involved in.

LL: What can you say about your opponent?

SN: Courtney and I are really good friends. She’s one of the sweetest people I know and a great all-around person.

Ryan Eason never knows what to write when he has to write about himself. He sometimes will write something basic, like that he lived in Colorado most of his life but then moved to California. But sometimes he'll say something completely stupid like he's an international spy. But one thing is for sure, he hates writing in third person >:(
