Since the fourth grade, Carlsbad High School junior Sean Deng has loved playing basketball. His love for the sport inspires him to keep playing while balancing schoolwork with basketball.

Lancer Link: How did you start playing basketball?

Sean Deng: My brother started playing in fifth grade, and I was in fourth grade so we started playing in the same youth basketball program.

LL: Why do you enjoy it?

SD: It is fast-paced and you can keep playing even when you get old; age does not matter.

LL: What motivates you to play?

SD: I just play for fun with all my friends. I play for the “ratchets.”

LL: What sacrifices have you had to make for basketball?

SD: I have less time to hang out with people because my weekend is filled with basketball.

LL: What advice do you have for younger players?

SD: Keep on grinding and do your thing.
