Top Ten things to be thankful for

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and although food and family may be the first thing to come to mind, Thanksgiving, as the name so clearly states, is a holiday for giving thanks. We have compiled a list of ten things we are grateful for this year. So, what are you thankful for? (Don’t worry, you can have more than 10 things if you wish.)

1. Family and friends: Thanksgiving is a time for big family dinners and get togethers with friends. They may get on our last nerve sometimes, but what would we do without them?

2. Movies and books: Great movies. Great books. Okay movies based off of great books. If you are not taking a long vacation any time soon, these are the perfect get-aways from your hectic life. Take a break, you deserve it.

3. Good coffee: A great morning pick-me-up, good coffee can turn that morning stress into a caffeine-filled paradise. Vinaka anyone?

4. Our five minute drive to beach: Carlsbad residents are so lucky to live minutes from the beach. Watching the sunsets over the ocean every night is an amazing experience that is sometimes taken for granted. Not to mention the endless hours of relaxing on the sand, the beach is a destination for people of all ages.

5. Funny comedians: Ahem, is this thing on? You don’t have to sit in the front row to hear the comedians and get a good laugh. Now, you can hear their stand-up on Pandora and Youtube, which brings us to our next topic…

6. Youtube and Netflix: This week-long vacation gives us the relaxation to take a break from homework. But what will take its place? Endless fat cat videos and Grey’s Anatomy re-runs. But don’t abuse it. As much as you may want to spend hours-on-end hiding beneath your covers enjoying the internet, remember that Thanksgiving is ultimately a time to spend with those you care about most. Still, we are thankful for the privilege.

7. Fluffy blankets: Instant sleep or a cozy afternoon, fluffy blankets are a necessity when it comes to comfort and relaxation.

8. Rainy Weather: Especially since we have had months of hot weather, rain is gladly accepted. Rain not only satisfies our needs but nourishes the beautiful greenery in our city. Who doesn’t love a good rainy day?

9.  Good music: Whether you are into alternative, pop or country, music sets the mood and can alter any negative situation. Cleaning you room? Rock out and get that done in a jiffy.

10. This motivational penguin: Watch it. Love it.
