Strange jersey choices seen among students on sports day

For many students and staff, sports day allows them to show support for their favorite teams or in many cases is simply a case to break out some sweatbands.  A wide variety of outfits could be found throughout the student population.  Baseball shirts, soccer socks and football jerseys were just a few of the various sports apparel worn on sports day.

But of course one could not miss the football jerseys and the notorious rivalries that they highlighted.  College and professional jerseys alike, both brought their fair share of rivalries to the forefront of student life.

Some people, however, wore jerseys for teams that one wouldn’t necessarily expect them to wear.  One teacher, Mr. Glazer, wore a USC jersey, despite being a UCLA graduate.

“I always rooted for them,” Mr. Glazer said “They we’re always my team.”

Surprisingly, though, such a change of allegiance did not bring on any criticism from fellow Bruins on sports day.  In addition to those who wore jerseys for teams whom you would expect them to despise there was another trend that was hard to miss.

After the Charger’s disappointing losses in the past two weeks many students chose to pass up the blue and gold in favor of jerseys for more desirable teams.  Despite doing this, senior Dominic LaPorta still feels a strong sense of loyalty to the Chargers.

“I’m always going to be a Chargers fan. They’ll always be my team and they’ll hold a special place in my heart,” LaPorta said.

Regardless of some of the stranger choices of sports apparel, sports day definitely kept up the spirit of Lancer week.  If students decided to venture out to Lancer plaza on Wednesday they would have found no shortage of contests to either watch or participate in.  But the week is yet to end so don’t forget to dress up for the remaining days and participate in the countless activities going on this week.
